The person whose post I was notified about is named Natalie Jenner. I do not know this person. I do not wish to receive notifications from people I have not chosen to connect with, even if it is related to a book I like. The reason you're getting notifications is because the person you referenced is a GR Author. I came to ask the same question: why do I received a notification about this Natalie Jenner, a person I don't know, posting something?
This solution is to have no notification at all even when friends post notes and highlights, when I just don't want strangers' notifications, but I see there's no other option. Same thing here - I get a notification everytime someone comments on her Highlights. It's exhausting. I'd still like to see highlights friends of mine and authors I follow make and be notified about them. Tal, I don't think that is the answer. It makes no sense to get a notification just because a person is an author. There are thousands of authors on Goodreads.
Notifications normally result only from authors and members that you follow. And to turn off all notifications is no solution. I want to get notifications from people I actually follow, and not to get notifications from people I don;t follow; it's that simple and logical and it's always worked that way until this particular notification. It's possible this particular notification may have been a fluke; nothing similar has recurred. It actually is. I'm not guessing merely stating a fact.
The end. I've gotten them two or three times a year for one to two years now. Not many authors actually use that feature, compared to the entire of GR authors. I remember a few users complaining about it in the old Feedback group, which has been gone almost a year now.
You just don't get an email or pop up notification when they do. I second that question. I came up with the same solution as Tal, but like others said, I still want to receive notifications from friends and people I follow, so it's not ideal. I also don't seem to be able to stop the notifications for the particular note I commented on, which is getting annoying because people are constantly commenting on it. The thread is nowhere in my list of threads I'm following, yet I keep getting notifications.

Can this kind of notification be stopped? Privacy and Security. All Answers. Incredibly annoying, especially since the only reason authors do it is so they can promote their own book. With the world in lockdown, video chat apps like Houseparty have become hugely popular. But pandemic social isolation is a marathon, not a sprint, and what we could do without is Houseparty's constant notifications driving us all crazy by week three. The app itself is pretty good — you can read more about what we thought here — but the default notification system is annoying. Notifications buzz your phone every time a Houseparty friend of yours merely opens the application. The app also alerts you every time someone in your phonebook installs the app, and of course there are messages each time your friends actually get together and invite you to the party.
