Google app to find friends
She went out with friends after work to celebrate somebody's birthday. I opted to stay in and go to bed at a decent hour because I have work in the morning, and also because I am lame. But now I'm awake, staring at the little circular blip on my phone, waiting for it to move. The blip is in Google Maps, which offers the ability to share your location with others. My girlfriend and I had been living together for about a year when she granted me indefinite access to her whereabouts.

I no longer have the app, but a couple of years ago I was working at a veterinary clinic, and my parents called me, bc they thought my shift ended at 6, but it was really 7. So they check my location and at some point in the day I had allegedly been at a house about miles away from my job.
I was allegedly there for 10 minutes and then returned to my job. Later there was a news report that there were two people dead in that house, a male and a female, and that animal services were involved.
So they started freaking out and instead of calling my job to see if I was there, they ended up stalking my car in the parking lot. Not only was this extremely stressful for them, I was left in shock at the inaccuracy. This would happen several times. And the school I went to had better security.
I and my family have had a degree life for about 3 years and not only is it a total privacy violation, we have also identified so many inaccuracies in the persecution. When we first got it, I was in high school in my senior year. A special incident occurred during my musical rehearsal at high school. I wasn't anywhere in this area before going to school because my house was going in the opposite direction and the rehearsal was right after school.
I had to have several friends who spoke to my mother to reassure her that we were at school for a trial. If I hadn't answered my phone when she called, she could very well have called the police and sent them to this house to find me when I wasn't even there. These inaccuracies are not only annoying and confusing for my parents and me, but the complete violation of privacy is also a big problem.
I understand that I want to make sure everyone in a family is safe, but I'm 20 years old and still need to use this app. Around when I got to high school, my mom made me get this app. She has always been overprotective, but i could deal with it before.
Even before I got the app, she would always text and ask if I'm okay every like 10 minutes. She still does it now with the app. I just feel like i am always being watched. My friends would want me to come with them around halftime to go to the convenience store nearby. I already knew that asking would be fruitless as she is extremely over protective. I considered maybe just going there on my own accord with them, as I was becoming my own man and I wanted to be independent.
However due to this app, I knew if I even went to the parking lot my mom would set my phone off like a thermonuclear warhead with texts. What is the harm in going with people to the grocery store to get good snacks and maybe some donuts? This is all in WV by the way, where everyone is friends and you don't even need to lock your doors.
Anyway my main point here is that this app makes me feel like I am trapped in a bubble. My teenage years are all but gone and I have had to sit around doing nothing.
This app genuinely made me consider ending it all at one point simply due to the combined pressure of basically not having my teen years and feeling like my mom hated me. Thanks Life team. I know this is not actually true, because generations of people did it, but it is true for me: I bought my first smartphone in , my first summer in the city, solely for Google Maps. What I wanted most was the sense of shared plot, by way of literal plotting. The idea was that I could wake up and watch them.
