Hart killed wife and daughter
It came as a bloody end to a campaign of abuse that lasted years, with Lance taking every chance he could to inflict emotional wounds on his family. His relentless bullying had become so bad that Luke and Ryan, now 28 and 27, had helped their year-old sister and mum to escape from the family home, in Spalding, Lincolnshire, just days before the killings. Lance had Googled "how many men kill their families" and Luke thinks he even mentally rehearsed murdering while his family slept. So at home he was clearly trying to work himself up. Before the day of the murder, Lance didn't physically attack his family, but he did "coercively control" them - taking charge of every aspect of their lives. However, it was only after they lost their mum and sister that the brothers discovered this kind of non-violent domestic abuse is more likely to turn deadly than violent domestic abuse.SEE VIDEO BY TOPIC: Chris Watts Officially Charged With Premeditated Murders Of Pregnant Wife, 2 Daughters - TODAY

He shot his family with a single-barrel shotgun, which he had to reload in between shots, before killing himself, an inquest at South Lincolnshire coroner's office in Boston heard. Mrs Hart, who worked on the meat counter at a local Morrisons supermarket, had left him four days earlier to start a new life saying she had had enough of him.
On the day of the murder he ambushed them knowing they were due to go swimming as he had arranged to meet her afterwards to exchange some belongings. Alex Marchant, duty manager at the Castle sports centre, said he heard a loud bang which he initially thought was a car back firing and ran outside when he heard a second bang. He took his own life. Hart's suicide note described how he ate a "last supper" of his favourite meal before he carried out the killings. Hart added: "My feelings inside are as if its my whole family have been in a car crash and died.
Not a good place to be. I want revenge too. Referring to his marriage he said: "Yes we bickered but it wasn't serious. It was normal marriage stuff. No violence. He added: "I believe Charlotte has conspired as well which is disappointing.
I have tried to help her with her depression. I'm completely screwed. Right or wrong I had to do this. I looked across to the swimming pool car park and saw a man standing next to a car holding a shotgun which was cocked. He was loading two cartridges," he said. He pointed it at waist height and fired it at her.
She fell to her knees. The man seemed pumped up. He said the man fired again and then he heard a third shot and saw the man gradually drop to his knees. Ryan and Luke Hart, sons of Claire and Lance, said in a statement: "Charlotte and our mum were our inspiration and purpose in life. It is not possible to describe how unfairly and how cruelly they have been taken from us.
Hart, who worked part-time in a local shop, was hoping they would downsize to a smaller home but his wife told him she wanted to leave their marriage. Mrs Hart, who had previously battled cancer and been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, told colleague Dale Pateman that her husband was a controlling and selfish man saying she had "become worn out by his behaviour".
She told another colleague that the 20 emails she received from her husband after she left him were the most he had said to her in 20 years. Charlotte had dropped out of a midwifery course but was due to start a teacher training course at Northampton University this year.
Police were unable to trace where Lance got the unregistered weapon from and told the inquest it was likely to be 50 years old. He was not a registered shotgun certificate holder and we have been unable to establish how or when he obtained it.

Hart family murder-suicide revisited in new documentary
Over two years have passed since Jen and Sarah Hart drove their SUV with their six adopted kids in it off the side of a cliff. Since then, friends, family and total strangers have struggled to understand how such a disaster could happen with seemingly no indication of the family's dire fate. Except, the thing is, there were plenty of warning signs.
Only five days before the murder, my brother, Ryan, and I had broken our mother and sister out of the family house, and we had moved to a small rented house five miles away. We had spent our entire lives studying, working, and saving to give Mum and Charlotte the life they deserved, only for our father to steal it from them. Even after the murders, many still gripped to trivial instances where our father might have seemed OK, rather than confront the undeniable revelation that he was never a good man. Yet, we believe men are capable of more. If men want respect, we must demand that they be held accountable for who we choose to be. And we were forced to read a story that was only five days long — a story that began when we escaped our father and finished when he killed our mother and sister.

O n a warm summer day last July, Claire Hart and her year-old daughter Charlotte went for an early morning swim at their local leisure centre in Spalding, Lincolnshire.
